It's easy to tell through their logo that Starbucks makes coffee.
NASA's space themed logo is also easily understood.
While both logos and and symbols try to convey something using images, logos are much more candid than symbols, which are made to make you think. You don't need to interpret a logo that says coffee on it.
Learning how to design logos is very important for an artist. Logos are the most frequently seen pieces of art work in the world, and there's good money in designing Logos for companies.
