Symbols and logos are different because symbols represent a general idea not a specific thing. If you were to see a three arrowed triangle you would just know it means recycle and same with a red biohazard sign you know that its bad and to stay away cause its a hazard.

Now logos are totally different thing, a logo stands for a specific thing like a business of website or even a brand of computer. when you see u tube its like an instant thought about videos/music. When you see the apple logo you think of computers and when you see burger king you think of food.
