Rough Idea

I am thinking that an animation or an illustration of a dragon fighting a knight would be a good project. A three dimensional animation would take the longest to do, but it also holds the highest chance of taking a good place in art shows. I will need to learn how to make controls in Maya, but if I can devote a semester to this project I can easily overcome this.

Art Analysis

This is a photo of webcomic art created by Michael Avon Oeming and Andrea Wicklund. The style of brush strokes give a feeling of ordered chaos. It has dark and cool colors to make that feeling more solid in the piece.

Idependentproject

Rough Idea:
I want to paint something in photoshop or just do something with photoshop.

Inspirational Images:

I started painting my picture, that I took last year, in photoshop. I’m going to just use the tones and not blend it and see how it turns out.

I’ve got my hair painted and so far it looks pretty good just need to do my chest and arm and see how hat looks.

I’ve gotten done with myself and I’m trying to figure out what I want to do with the background I don’t know if I want it to be different colors or have something in it or just leave it as the door.

I can’t find anything I like for the background so I just left it. I have half of it done and it looks pretty nice.

I’ve finished the whole thing I really like how it’s turned out I like that I stuck with the original background.

1/17/12 Weekly Goal And Reflection

This week I am going to practice some more tutorials and post my progress on them.

Reflection:

I sort of failed this week. I tried to draw an eye but that didn't turn out too good. I did do a bubble tutorial. It looks terrible.

Start of The Head

I started work on the dragon's head today. I need to send it to mudbox and then work on the rest of the model.

What I have done so far

Right now I am starting to paint over my model

masked head

Progress

This is a rough guess of what I want it to look like.

Progress

My sketch took most of my time so I just went into maya and played around with some ideas for the amp.

The Breakdown_Munsey

For January I plan to have completed my sketches and start working with the images on the computer and get something going. By the end of February I would like to have the outlining done and ready to be shaded and start on shading. In mid-March I want to have the shading completed and the colors layered in so I have a complete project to give to a printing company and have it printed and ready to go for April. In April I will pick up my completed shirt and show it off to all my peers!

Proposal_Munsey

After looking through various designs and artists I have decided to make a Tee- Shirt design that I will have completed and printed by April 6th.  I plan to use some Japanese influenced artwork but put a more modern tattoo like take with it. I am going to make a flowing black and white background that consists of various shapes and line thicknesses. The main design will be the focal point of the piece and will have the only color in the piece. I plan on having a Koi fish as the main design with waves going around it and then another design of an anchor or something to place on the back of the shirt. I would like to use some sort of grey shirt to really set off the color choices. The pieces I have seen all use really nice vibrant colors which is the direction I am going and they all had a sort of modern take on a traditional design which is also what im going for.

This artwork is full of different things such as nature and electronic things. It’s not extremely busy, or shaded too much which is something I want my project to have also. IT is black and white with little color and that is another quality I would like my project to have. Most of the lines are contour and not to “scratchy” looking. The artist used the color in the center of the project and it’s the first thing my eyes looks at. I like the way it looks with less color and one main vocal point. There is shading and I think the way it’s used here is right in the middle, not too much and not too little. I’m not sure what the meaning of this piece is but if I had to guess I would say it’s capturing nature. There is a camera and video camera and lots of nature so that’s my guess. The mood of this piece is calm, nature and capturing it is calming. I would love to have my project have many different things in it and have a vocal point. This piece reflects what I want to do because it’s got more then one thing, vocal point, black and white and little color, not too busy.

Art Analysis_Munsey

Art Analysis

The artist of my favorite inspirational piece goes by the name of SFHD. The piece is entitled “Japanese Water Garden” and is part of a collection called  “Traditional Japanese Influence”. The art is a very flowy design. The lines move and flow together to give the illusion of a fish swimming gracefully. It is a very peaceful design that creates a sense of calmness when you view it. The colors are vivid; they are added to the fish in kind of a paint from so it’s not perfectly colored in. The color is powerful because the background is all black and white then the foreground has the bright vivid color overlay. The lines are very crisp as opposed to the coloring, which really makes the image come to life. The textured affect is created by layering the images and adding scales to the fish that appear to be overlapping making it look three-dimensional. The lighting is created by adding shading and shadows and slight gradation to the fish. The meaning of a Koi fish is overcoming obstacles since the fish swims upstream instead of just going into the flow so the artist was trying to show an image that represented overcoming an obstacle but did it in a way that appeals to the viewer and uses the Koi as a symbol. The mood of this piece I think is created with the bold lines and color. I get a feeling of accomplishment and boldness when I see the picture. With the lines and slight amount of color it comes off bold as opposed to just some sort of colored mess and the Koi I see as a symbol of accomplishment. I think this piece is great. I really like all the elements that are used to make this one image and the artist has a great sense of value and space. This piece reflects what i'm trying to do because I want a mostly black and white image with one focal area of color and also I want to incorporate a Koi in my design
