Animated Walk Cylcle Assignment - 30 points total - Due at the end of class Friday the 21st.

Due  at the end of class Friday the 21st

Compare and Contrast = 10 points
Watch the following video and then write a short compare and contrast paragraph between the two characters walk cycle.

Walk Cycle Assignment = 20 points

Teams of 2

Mission:
Using a pre-existing rig, breath life into that character by animating it in a walk cycle and posting a video of your work onto the blog.

Each team member must create his or her own animated walk cycle. These characters must contrast each other’s mood, but use the same rig (e.g. happy vs. sad). The emotions are up to you to choose.

  1. Both the man and girl walk with their eyes closed (which is the leading cause of walking into things). The man is walking more normally but is still very large and that gives him a hulking feeling of movement. The girl is skipping, swaying her arm and head back and forth, and the speed at which she is skipping shows she is much lighter than the man.

  2. The two walking cycles share a stark few similarities, in that they are both repetitive and fairly symmetrical with the exception of the axes. They appear to have good weight distribution and the characters seem to have the right weight for how the walk.
The two are also very different. The large lumber jack has a heavier walk, he doesn't bounce as much and his arms do not move as much, giving him a slower canter. His larger figure however, keeps him ahead of the little girl. She skips and bounces much higher, giving the illusion that she's far lighter.

  3. The man has a very smooth and calm walking cycle. He's a large man, and you can see his weight shift up and down very slightly as he moves along. On the other hand, the girl is a lot more energetic, bouncing up and down and shifting her weight a lot more dramatically. It gives the impression that the man has walked this path many times before, whereas the girl is new to it.

  4. The man walks at a slow and controlled looking pace while the girl skips at a faster pace. The man's upper body barely moves when he walks while in contrast the little girl's head bobs considerably with each skip.

  5. the man walks very smooth, and tall, where as the girl walks all jumpy and fast because of her shorter stride. I think these 2 contrast each other because the girl is full of energy, but the man just looks exhausted.

  6. the man walks smoothly and like any adult to the point or determined to get to where he is going the kid is skipping along having no cares in the world

  7. Differences:
Girl: The girl is skipping and bouncing happily. She's moving fast. She's smiley and bouncy
Man: The man is swinging his arms in a down cast motion and kind of slowly. His feet are hitting the ground more evenly. He looks like he's calm composed
    Similarities:
They're both walking with their eyes closed.
